Our Environment

For us all to have the chance of a healthy and happy future, it is important that our surroundings are good quality, well managed and well maintained. From keeping parks and green spaces in good condition and conserving wildlife, to cleaning our streets and looking after our neighbourhoods, the partnership is working to improve our local environment.
Everything we do also has an impact on the world environment. It is important that we all do our bit to look after our planet. The partnership are looking at issues such as climate change, resource use and waste management (including recycling) to ensure Knowsley continues to work towards a sustainable future.
Many of the partners have specific roles to play in improving our environment:
Landlife and the National Wildflower Centre seek to conserve and promote wildflowers and wildlife in Britain. They are based in Court Hey Park in Knowsley, the National Wildflower Borough.
The Environment Agency is the leading public body protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. Their work includes tackling flooding and pollution, cleaning up rivers and improving wildlife habitats.
Groundwork is a leading environmental regeneration organisation which works to benefit local people, the local environment and local business. Their purpose is 'to build sustainable communities through joint environmental action'.
The Mersey Forest works to transform the landscape of The Mersey Forest through woodland planting and the creation of associated habitats, to produce long term, sustainable benefits for the economy, people and wildlife.
Merseyside Environmental Trust seeks to raise awareness of the environment across the region, working to promote the adoption of sustainable lifestyles and the aims and objectives of Local Agenda 21.
Knowsley Chamber of Commerce hosts the Knowsley Business Environment Club, which aims to support businesses in Knowsley to become more environmentally conscious.
Merseytravel plays a key role in planning a sustainable future for Knowsley's transport system and also runs an annual Green Transport month in June.
